Naturopathic Medicine is a system of primary healthcare in which wellness and the prevention of illness is promoted through the assessment and treatment of the whole person. Naturopathic Medicine uses standard and well recognized diagnostic tools to evaluate a patient’s health to then create thorough, individulized and sustainable treatment protocols. Naturopathic Medicine recognizes the body’s innate ability to heal itself and therefore draws on that ablity to regain vitality through the use of modalities such as Botanical Medicine, Acupuncture, Homeopathy, Lifestyle Modification, Nutrition, Physical Medicine, Hydrotherapy and Mental/Emotional Counselling.
Naturopathic Medicine does not aim to replace conventional medicine- meaning the use of pharmaceuticals, vaccines, surgical procedures etc- but instead looks to compliment all different forms of medicine, empowering patients to take responsibility of their own health through education and adequate and appropriate professional support.

Naturopathic doctors are guided by six fundamental healing principles:
• First, to do no harm, by using methods and medicines that minimize the risk of harmful side effects.
• To treat the causes of disease, by identifying and removing the underlying causes of illness, rather than suppressing symptoms.
• To teach the principles of healthy living and preventative medicine, by sharing knowledge with patients and encouraging individual responsibility for health.
• To heal the whole person through individualized treatment, by understanding the unique physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental and social factors that contribute to illness, and customizing treatment protocols to the patient.
• To emphasize prevention, by partnering with the patient to assess risk factors and recommend appropriate naturopathic interventions to maintain health and prevent illness.
• To support the healing power of the body, by recognizing and removing obstacles to the body’s inherent self-healing process.

Book An Appointment

The first appointment with our Naturopathic Doctors usually runs between 60-90 minutes in length. During this initial meeting, the doctor gets to know the patient, addressing everything from diet & lifestyle to past medical history, leaving no detail behind. Focused physical exams are most often performed during this appointment and if deemed appropriate, your ND may prescribe any number of modalities. Laboratory testing and diagnostic imaging may be necessary and will be arranged during this first meeting as well. It is requested that you bring your most recent labwork with you to your appointment, if available.
Naturopathic Medicine, in treating the whole person, encompasses and acknowledges all symptoms in a patient’s health picture. Necessary, extensive and thorough research is carried out for each individual case- creating a unique, inclusive and specialized treatment protocol.

Subsequent follow-up appointments are typically shorter than the initial, ranging anywhere from 15-45 minutes in length. Some treatments, such as acupuncture or Bowen therapy may require weekly appointments depending on the diagnosis and circumstances. Your ND will discuss with you the most appropriate plan and together you will move forward.
